GRANTS TO EVENTS (events marked * were supported from the Golombek fund)
1st Big Slick International*
This was organised by Simon Williams at the Big Slick Poker Club in Purley, and comprised a 10 player all-play-all GM event and a weekend FIDE-rated section.
The GM event was won by Alexander Chernaiev and Keith Arkell. Games from the event can be found here.
Jonathan Rowson and Mark Rich tied for first place in the FIDE-rated section, with Jonathan taking the title by winning a 5 minute Armageddon game. Games from the event can be found here.
2nd Jessie Gilbert Celebration International*
This was organised by Coulsdon Chess Fellowship from 22 to 31 August 2009. The IM Norm section was won by Alexey Slavin with 6½/9, who thereby achived his second IM Norm: Peter Vas got his rating above 2300 and effectively became an FM. The Challengers event was won by John Hodgson with 7½/9: there were also two sections for all events and a junior training day.
Jack Rudd completed his FIDE arbiter norms at this event.

6th South Wales International
This was organised by Kevin Staveley at the University of Glamorgan from 11 to 16 July 2009 and was won by Julian Radulski. Games from this event can be found here.
SUPPORT FOR TEAMS
European Club Cup
White Rose were supported in this event, which took place from 3 to 10 October 2009 in Ohrid MD,
Support was provided to help the British Federation for Correspondence Chess (BFCC) host the 2009 ICCF Congress at the Village Hotel, Headingly, Leeds from 13 to 19 September 2009.
The AGM was held on 2 August 2009, during the middle weekend of the British Championships in Torquay. Lawrence Cooper was elected to fill one of the vacancies on the Committee. A suggestion by Paul Buswell that the Friends should be wound up in the light of falling membership numbers did not find any other support.
